Pilates for beginners: what to expect in your first class at NOON STUDIO
Your first pilates class can be full of anticipation and questions. At NOON STUDIO we're ready to welcome you into a safe, calm space where you have nothing to worry about — only to focus on yourself, your breath and slow, precise movement.

Is pilates suitable for complete beginners?
Yes, absolutely. Pilates is a method built on progression, precision and respect for the body. Every exercise can be adapted to your level, pace and individual needs — whether you work on the mat or on the reformer. At NOON STUDIO in Dunajská Streda we're preparing beginner courses where the instructor gives every client personal attention and explains the basics step by step.
You don't need any previous fitness or sports experience. Pilates for beginners is designed to introduce you safely to the world of mindful movement, breathing and core strengthening.
What should you wear to your first pilates class?
Dress comfortably and practically. We recommend stretchy leggings or shorts and a top that doesn't restrict movement and lets the instructor see your posture. For Reformer Pilates, grip socks are essential to ensure stability on the machine's carriage. They're also very useful in Mat Pilates, even though you practise on a mat.
Leave loose tracksuits and heavy hoodies at home — the class is dynamic and you'll want to move freely. Don't forget a bottle of water. We provide all the other equipment, including mats and props, right here at the studio.
- comfortable, stretchy clothing
- grip socks (especially for Reformer Pilates)
- a bottle of water
- an open mind and a willingness to learn
How does the first class work?
When you arrive at NOON STUDIO, a calm atmosphere and a friendly team will welcome you. First you'll have a brief introduction with the instructor, who will ask about your movement history, any limitations and your goals. Don't be afraid to say it's your first time — the instructor will welcome it and adapt the class to your needs.
The class itself begins with a warm-up and a focus on the breath. You'll learn the basic principles of posture, core engagement and mindful breathing. The instructor guides you slowly, with precise cues and corrections. It's not about speed, but about the quality of each movement. After the class there will be time for questions and recommendations on how to continue.
Mat Pilates or Reformer Pilates — where to start?
Both styles build on the same pilates principles, but the way you work differs. Mat Pilates is practised on a mat using your own body weight — ideal for building the foundations of technique, breath and control. Reformer Pilates uses a professional spring-loaded machine that adds both resistance and support.
For complete beginners we recommend starting with Mat Pilates to master the basics. If you'd like to feel right away how the machine supports and challenges your muscles, you can also try Reformer Pilates under expert guidance. You'll find a more detailed comparison in our guide Reformer vs. Mat Pilates: which style is right for you?.
Do I need to be flexible or in shape?
Not at all. Flexibility and fitness are the result of regular practice, not a prerequisite for starting. Pilates is designed to help precisely those who are beginning to move or returning to it. It gradually builds strength, mobility, stability and a better awareness of your own body.
At NOON STUDIO we respect every body and every stage. Whether you're a complete beginner or returning after a break, the instructor will adjust the intensity and range of exercises so that you feel safe and confident.
How often should you practise pilates at the start?
To begin with, 1–2 times a week is plenty. This frequency lets your body adapt to new movement patterns while giving you time to recover. Gradually, as you master the technique, you can increase the frequency according to your goals and possibilities.
Consistency matters more than intensity. Even one class a week brings positive changes to your posture, mobility and overall body awareness. Once you fall in love with pilates, you'll sense for yourself when it's time to add another class.
